From the minute you open the door into Magnolia Bakery you are welcomed to an array of beautifully crafted classic deserts. This is one of the cutest and most well known bakery in New York City. The first of which opened in 1996 at 401 Bleecker Street. The bakery's name is now prestigious and is known by everyone. There is a seemingly permanent line curving around the block outside their quaint West Village shop. Magnolia Bakery is a chain of bakeries founded in New York City that are known for their cupcakes. The cookies and other pastries are high quality.
Their world wide fame is due to being mentioned in many popular movies and tv shows. They sell all kinds of delectable sweets from brownies to chocolate chip cookies. Their products are baked fresh all day long in small batches to ensure quality. Magnolia Bakery has a neighborhood store feel with their vintage tiled floors and warm smiles the bakers give that invites people in.
I think that Magnolia Bakery is slightly over hyped because some of the things they sell are sickeningly sweet and others are just average. However I did enjoy something, so its pretty hit or miss. I tried many of the cookies and though they are crisp and freshly baked, they are just normal cookies. The cupcakes were light and crumbly, but there was way too much frosting for me, which made it cloyingly sweet and overly rich. The banana pudding was something that I actually enjoyed. It was fluffy and had a great, clean banana flavor. The store is beautiful with its classic American look, but it is too small for its thousands of customers everyday. It is slightly chaotic and claustrophobic in the tightly packed store. You can see the people running around in the kitchen scrambling to make the desserts. The people working there are very helpful and made it easy for me to choose from the extensive menu. The products are good, but overrated. I think that Magnolia will always have that permanent line, but I don't think I will be waiting on it.
