Introducing Tokyo

The bustling city of Tokyo is the capital of Japan and the world's most populous metropolis. Tokyo is the perfect harmony of the history of the past and the ultra futuristic. As shown in the pictures above, within a few miles of each other there is the peaceful Imperial Palace and the chaotic skyline. This is a great representation of the philosophical system of harmonizing the surrounding area called Feng Shui. A part of Feng Shui is the balance of yin and yang, which explains that opposite forces (modern and old) are actually complementary. Tokyo is the best of both worlds and is the most ugly, beautiful city. The mix matched buildings, the jumbled wiring over your head, and the crazy clutter neon signs. This is one of the most enjoyable and interesting cities to visit and I really enjoyed my time.

The ancient food traditions in Japan are amazing and are still popular eaten today. Whether you are slurping up a bowl of ramen or dipping a piece of fresh tuna in soy sauce, you will notice the work, care, and quality that goes into every bite. There are many very expensive restaurants that offer elaborate pre-fix meals. Some of these restaurants have very innovative foods that have elements of traditional Japanese food, but have a very modern twist. The best example that I tried was the sashimi mini tacos at Nobu. There are also very good street food in Japan like takoyaki (balls of batter and squid) or mochi (a sweet gluttonous ball made from rice).

Tokyo is filled with attractions, the most famous of which are their temples. The most popular temple in Tokyo is Sensō-ji Temple. It is a beautiful shine in the middle of the city and is surrounded by hundreds of food vendors selling Japanese snacks. My favorite temple in Tokyo is Meiji Shrine. It is a huge, serene place where you can get away from the chaos of the city. Another great attraction in Tokyo is Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. It is a beautifully kept Japanese styled garden filled with trees and still water. In the spring you can even see the beautiful cherry blossoms bloom.Tokyo has a beautiful skyline and the best way to experience it is going atop the Tokyo Tower or the Tokyo Skytree. If you have seen pictures of Tokyo you have probably seen the hectic Shibuya Crossing. It is so interesting to be there after seeing so many pictures of the scramble of people coming from all direction in this intersection. Tokyo has so many interesting and wonderful attractions to visit.

In Tokyo shopping is like a religion. All over the city and on subways people are always holding their bags from constant shopping. The best place to shop is the Ginza district. It has all the brands you know and all the brands you don't. In Tokyo you can also catch a sumo bout at Tokyo's National Sumo Hall. Japan has had a long and very interesting history and the best place to learn about is in one of Tokyo's museums. The most popular one is the Tokyo National Museum.
